There are several models of the iPod, including the iPod Nano, Shuffle and Touch. Each iPod has its own method of resetting the device without having to connect it to iTunes. Once you have reset the iPod you can access the device again. However, after a reset, most of your content remains but your settings get restored to the iPod's default configuration. Knowing how to reset your iPod comes in handy if it has frozen before or during your company's presentation and you need it to access audio.

Reset iPod Nano

Step 1Connect your iPod Nano to a power source if you have one available.
Step 2Press the Sleep/Wake button and the Volume Down buttons together.
Step 3Hold the buttons down for eight seconds.
Step 4Complete the process again until the iPod resets.

Reset iPod Shuffle

Step 1Slide the switch to "Off."
Step 2Wait five seconds.
Step 3Move the switch until the green stripe appears. This will reset your iPod Shuffle.
Reset iPod Touch

Step 1Hold the Sleep/Wake button until the "Slide to Power Off" slider shows up.
Step 2Swipe from left to right to turn the iPod off. If your iPod doesn't respond, continue to the next step.
Step 3Press the Sleep/Wake and Home button for 10 seconds. Continue holding until you see the Apple logo. This will reset your iPod Touch.
Tip

For older iPods that have a scroll wheel, touch wheel or dock connector, slide the "Hold" switch on and off. Hold the "Play/Pause" and Menu buttons together for about eight seconds. Try again if the iPod doesn't reset.
